Farris Lee Dugan-Francis is a third-year student at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. At Hofstra, he was selected to compete in the interscholastic Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition, where he was awarded the distinction of Best Oral Advocate. Beginning in the fall of 2019, he will serve as a staff member on the Labor and Employment Law Journal at Hofstra.

Farris is a former public school educator with dual certifications in middle-grade and secondary English and History. He has taught in North Carolina, Louisiana, and Brooklyn, New York. Farris is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. His educational credits include a Bachelor of Science in Social Science from Campbell University and two Advanced Graduate Certificates in Women and Gender Studies and African American Studies, respectively. Additionally, he holds a Master of Arts degree in Rhetoric and Composition.

Farris has also published and contributed essays, book chapters, academic book reviews, and articles in the fields of English, Rhetoric, Women and Gender Studies, and African American Studies. Such publications include the article “On Hate and Heritage” and the chapter “A Sartorial Tapestry: The Rhetorical Shifts of Hillary Rodham Clinton.” Additionally, during his first year of law school, he served as a legal intern and research assistant at the Louisiana Foundation against Sexual Assault and as a judicial intern at the 19th Judicial District Court of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Leah Jackson is a rising third-year law student attending Touro Law School. Leah is a Long Island native and a Juris Doctor candidate for 2020. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Oswego. Motivated by her love for business, Leah entered law school with the intent to practice Business Law. However, her first-year experiences in the public service sector sparked her interest in the many diverse fields within law. With her law degree, she intends to develop and explore her litigation interests. She serves as the Diversity Fellow for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Vice President of the Criminal Law Society, is a competing member of the Trial Advocacy and Practice Honor Society at Touro Law and a board member of Minority Millennials, Inc.

Dawn Page is a rising 3L at New York Law School where she is affiliated with Black Law Student Association, the New York City Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University. After graduating from college, Dawn entered the real estate industry where she became interested in the legal aspect of real estate.

Piqued by those experiences, she started law school, where she realized that there was an array of other opportunities to be explored through a legal education. Dawn became involved in public interest work and has used that interest as a guide through her legal endeavors. She has worked as a legal intern for diversity and inclusion for a government agency and has also gained judicial court exposure as a Judicial Extern in the Civil Court of the City of New York for the Honorable Dakota Ramseur. Additionally, Dawn has volunteered at Law Help NY, an outlet for law students to aid the general public by providing legal information to those in need. Dawn intends to provide a voice and serve those who are underrepresented. She will be homing in on her litigation and advocacy skills throughout the duration of her third year in law school.

Gulfam H. Dhillon joined the Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington as a Summer Intern in mid-June of 2018. Thereafter, he remained as an intern the entire academic year of 2018-2019. He has demonstrated a keen ability and dedication to the law. His position in the Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington is unique. His status is that of a Summer Intern, as opposed to a Summer Associate, because Mr. Dhillon is currently a sophomore at St. John’s University majoring in English. Mr. Dhillon is also a member of St. John’s’ nationally recognized Mock Trial team and has exhibited extraordinary skill, legal reasoning and understanding of the legal process far beyond his peers.

Mr. Dhillon is also the youngest student ever chosen by our office to work as an intern focused strictly on legal work, as opposed to clerical. He aims to exceed the expectations being placed on him and is a hardworking, dedicated young man who has a bright future. He has set his sights on being intellectually competitive and second to none in the discipline of law. Mr. Dhillon has committed himself to helping individuals who require assistance to ensure that they will receive fair treatment in our country, including those who have traditionally been underserved, underrepresented and disrespected.
