The Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington Welcomes Class of 2016 Summer Associates

Each year for the past 21 years, The Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington has hired law students as part of its Summer Associate Program. This program was instituted by Mr. Brewington and his wife, the Rev. Adrienne Brewington, to provide opportunities for law students who have an interest in the area of Civil Rights and to encourage and foster students who have a desire to explore and experience what it is like to work in a small, fast-paced law firm that is involved in high-profile Civil Rights work and litigation. The positions are highly competitive and normally start the first week of June and continue into the middle of August.

As students, the Summer Associates are asked to assist in drafting and responding to discovery requests, file review and preparation for trial. Their experience includes New York State law and federal law. Students are required to have a dedication to their academic pursuits, as well as a solid understanding of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Federal Rules of Evidence. Under the supervision of lawyers, the Summer Associates have client contact, firsthand experience in Court proceedings and engage in a number of research and writing projects.

This year, The Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington has selected two young men as Summer Associates. It is our pleasure to introduce you to Steven R. Filosa and Farhan Imtiaz. We encourage you to read their bios, which are part of this article. Each of them comes to us with a wonderful and interesting background. They both have an interest in and are committed to Civil Rights work and seek to use their law degrees to follow the tradition of Civil Rights lawyers in being civil engineers for the public good.

Steven Filosa is a second-year law student attending Pace University School of Law. A Juris Doctor candidate for 2017, Steven is a Long Island native who was recently living and working in California. He received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Virginia and, after spending several years working for credit, he became part of Pace’s accelerated January class. He will finish his J.D. in just over two years while completing certificates in multiple concentrations.

Hoping to focus his efforts on public service, Steven looks forward to representing his clients with zeal, advocating for societal change, and remaining active in the local community.

Farhan Imtiaz will be entering his final year at Touro Law School this fall. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York Bar Association, and the Suffolk County Bar Association. He is also a member and treasurer of the International Refugee Assistance Project at Touro Law School, for which he was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for his outstanding contribution to the International Refugee Assistance Project. Before attending law school, Mr. Imtiaz was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Politics, Economics, and Law from the State University of Old Westbury. Born in AlAin, United Arab Emirates, he was raised in Huntington Station, New York. He seeks to use his law degree to help people who have very limited resources, having experienced that plight himself. Furthermore, he considers it to be his honor and privilege to be the voice for persons in need and help make a real difference in their lives.
