AT THE FIRM

Fred Brewington to Receive the Hon. William Gitelman Award

The Nassau Lawyers’ Association of Long Island will honor Fred Brewington with the Hon. William Gitelman Award at a special ceremony that will take place at the association’s 63rd annual Dinner Dance on May 23rd at 6:30 p.m. at The Carltun, Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. The award is given to an attorney or jurist for his/her outstanding service to the Bar and to the community.

Mr. Brewington and his team have successfully represented clients in matters involving employment discrimination, retaliation, housing discrimination, educational discrimination, police misconduct, police brutality, governmental misconduct, first amendment, voting rights violations and other civil rights violations. He was also part of a legal team that was victorious in a housing discrimination case against the Village of Garden City. That decision found that the Village of Garden City has abused its zoning laws to discrimination and prevent minority persons from having access to affordable housing in Garden City. His work also includes having successfully challenged the “at large” voting system in the Town of Hempstead which then changed the structure and form of the Town’s government. He continues to work on relevant issues and engages the community on issues of the day through his lectures and writing. Most recently, his article “Is Trumpism Leading Us to Fascism?” was published in National Bar Association magazine.

Tickets are $150. For those who wish to join in recognizing Mr. Brewington for this award or to place an ad in the journal*, please visit www.nassaulawyersassociation.com.
