Julissa M. Proaño, Esq. Joins the Firm
Julissa M. Proaño is an Associate Attorney with the firm. She supports both English- and Spanish-speaking clients in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, governmental official misconduct and employment discrimination. Inspired by the sacrifices made by her parents, who immigrated to this country, for the betterment of herself and her sibling, Ms. Proaño has always strived to be an advocate and a voice for those who are unable to speak for themselves.
Born and raised in Brentwood, New York, Ms. Proaño began her legal career prior to law school as a Legal Assistant and as a Litigation Department Manager at several law firms which concentrated in the area of general civil litigation. As a result, she was able to gain vast experience working on various types of cases, allowing her to address the needs of the client from a holistic viewpoint. Her skills equip her well, as she is ready and willing to counsel clients throughout the intricate litigation process. She holds high her commitment to excellence for all of the clients she serves.
In addition, Ms. Proaño participated in a mission-building trip to Honduras, where she was able to obtain a global perspective of the inequalities that many face. The injustices faced by those who are underrepresented have motivated Ms. Proaño to become a stronger advocate for those who are unable to make a stand on their own.
She is an active member of the Hispanic National Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. She received her B.A. from Stony Brook University, where she majored in History and minored in Political Science, and her Juris Doctor from CUNY School of Law. During the spring of 2016, while attending law school, she was a Judicial Intern at Queens County Supreme Court for the Honorable Elizabeth Yablon; before that, she worked as a Summer Extern with the Honorable Leonard D. Wexler in 2014. During her final year of law school, Ms. Proaño was selected to be a Teacher’s Assistant for the Trial Practice course.
Besides practicing law, Ms. Proaño enjoys reading, singing, traveling, outdoor activities and spending time with her daughter and husband.
Ms. Proaño welcomes the challenge of difficult and new legal projects and views any such projects as an opportunity to learn and expand her legal skills. She provides clients with support to benefit them now, and in the future. As an Associate of the Law Offices of Frederick K.
