Fred Brewington Joins NPAP Discussion on How Police Treat People of Color Differently

Fred Brewington, principal of The Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington and a member of the advisory board of the National Police Accountability Project (NPAP), spoke with fellow NPAP board members

Michael Avery and Stanley King on how police treat people of color differently from whites and how the current policing system needs to be changed. “When I get pulled over, my [blood] pressure goes up, my heart starts to pump… and my concern is that this could be a situation that could turn from a police stop into a deadly scenario where I’m a statistic,” Mr. Brewington said.

“Policing itself is an institution and a system,” he continued. “It does not need to be the same simply because it’s always been the way that it’s always been. That’s called insanity. We need to change what’s going on in the 21 st century and make this the reality we say we want it to be, not the reality that it’s become.”
