March 11, 2009

On March 12, 2009 at 11:00 at the Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington located at 50 Clinton Street, Suite 501, Hempstead, New York 11550, the Family of KENNY LAZO, a Bay Shore man who was killed by Suffolk County Police on April 12, 2008, will hold a Press Conference. The family of Mr. LAZO is filing a Federal Law Suit charging, among other things the Wrongful Death, Battery and Violation of Civil Rights by the County of Suffolk, the Suffolk County Police, individual police officers and the Suffolk County District Attorneys Office.

On April 12, 2008, MR. LAZO was stopped by Suffolk Police, was beaten and victimized by police who used unnecessary and excessive force which led to the death of this 24 year old individual. According to Suffolk County officials, the immediate cause of death was “SUDDEN DEATH CARDIAC [ARREST] FOLLOWING EXERTION ASSOCIATED W/ PROLONGED PHYSICAL ALTERCATION W/ MULTIPLE BLUNT IMPACTS.” The brutal actions of police caused Mr. LAZO to suffer unbearable agonizing pain. The results of autopsy, reveals that the actions taken against this unarmed man were both unnecessary and inhumane. Despite numerous attempts to have the official information about this case made public, Suffolk County officials, Suffolk County Police officials and the District Attorneys office delayed and then covered up the brutal torture of Mr. Lazo.

In light of the Federal investigation which is ongoing into the failures of the Suffolk County, Suffolk County Police and the District Attorney to address the complaints of the Hispanic community, this case is yet another example of a level of benign neglect that serves to diminish any confidence that might exist in the Justice System.

FREDERICK K. BREWINGTON, ESQ., one of the Attorneys for the family of KENNY LAZO, who will be joined by co-counsel DAVID A. PINCUS, ESQ. said, “We tried to work with the County of Suffolk, but is seems that the only way we can get their attention is by bringing an action. They know that Kenny Lazo was the victim of homicide by the Police and yet they demean his death and discount his life. We will pursue this case and ask a jury to decide what really happened.”

The attorneys will be joined by PATRICIA GONZALEZ the Mother of KENNY LAZO and JENNIFER GONZALEZ, the Mother of the son of KENNY LAZO, each of whim are the Administrators of Mr. Lazo’s Estate.

The Press Conference will be held March 12, 2009 at 11:00 at the Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington located at 50 Clinton Street, Suite 501, Hempstead, New York 11550.
